Image via WikipediaThe BJP attacked prime minister Mamnohan Singh for wasting an opportunity to take corrective measures against “corruption”. The party said the PM had failed to send a signal to people on the issue of corruption by retaining ministers who are under the glare for various scams.
Besides gunning for the removal of home minister P Chidambaram and human resource development minister Kapil Sibal, BJP leaders said the other two “tainted” ministers — Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushil Kumar Shinde (for alleged involvement in the Adarsh society scam) should have also been removed.
The reshuffle showed the PM was helpless and his government was direction-less, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said. He said the PM was leading a “corrupt cabinet”.
“The reshuffle would have indicated PM’s will power to fight corruption. But this reshuffle has made it clear the government is keen to cover up corruption issues. The changes show lack of commitment to fight graft and he has not removed any of the ministers involved in corruption,” he said.
