For a nation that has only nine million people, it is extraordinary that it is able to sustain two automakers. The nation is Sweden so the two corporations are Saab and Volvo. Volvo, that's run by Ford Motor Company, has had the biggest influence on the car industry. Their greatest effect on the industry has been in the area of safety features. Some of the things that had their origins with Volvo, are reinforced roofs, front end crumple zones, and specifically designed interiors. They grew to be well known for generating good quality and ultra safe vehicles. It was because of Volvo's desire for excellence that improved the safety standards of cars throughout the world.
The Volkswagen Beetle is a car that virtually everyone knows about although not so much regarding the history behind the car. The Beetle was first constructed in Germany in the 1930's as a vehicle for the people. It made it through World War II to become not simply just about the most adored cars, but was also the most mass-produced. It had become a vehicle that anyone from any background in life could afford. Any individual, whether they happen to be college students, farmers or business people, could obtain a Beetle. The Beetle concluded its run in the United States during the 1970's but continued to be made in Mexico up until the early 2000's.
Years ago, Audi presented the first all-wheel drive Quattro and this was considered a great advancement in technology. Audi threw down the gauntlet, and let the automobile community know that Quattro was now the standard to judge all luxury sedans from then on. Their Quattro technology put them forward of the competition for years. Their traction and road handling was so considerably advanced in comparison to the competition, that the cars were not allowed in certain racing competitions.
That's an overview of three great auto producers from Europe. But if you start looking at their body of work, maybe the proper word is extraordinary.
