Outgoing chief minister BS Yeddyurappa gave anxious moments to the BJP high command even as he headed to Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation. The high command was pleased when Yeddyurappa and his supporters emerged from Raj Bhavan and announced that only Yeddyurappa had submitted his resignation. Yeddyurappa, accompanied by Basavaraj Bommai, DB Chandre Gowda and Sadananda Gowda, later headed to Hotel Ashoka to hold talks with Jaitley and Rajnath on the selection of a successor.
Yeddyurappa, addressing the media outside Raj Bhavan, admitted that he had indeed demanded that the high command select Sadananda Gowda as his successor. Recalling his own long journey in public life from being the president of Shikaripur municipal council to chief minister of the state, he said, “I have the satisfaction of doing my best for the wellbeing of the people with programmes like Bhagyalakshmi, Sandhya Suraksha, and the Global Investors Meet.”
“I have decided to involve myself actively in party building and the public cause,” Yeddyurappa said, thanking the people of the state and his party colleagues for extending their support during his three-year-and-two-month tenure as the chief minister.
