His kin try to kidnap bride, BSP sacks its Uttarakhand chief

One week after his son, along with two cousins, allegedly tried to abduct a girl from her wedding in Deoband, BSP sacked its Uttarakhand unit chief Meghraj Jaraware. Jaraware’s son and his two nephews were also expelled from the BSP.

On July 9, the day of the wedding, Jaraware’s son Amit and his nephews Sonu and Sanni had gatecrashed the venue and tried to drag the girl away with them, saying she was in love with Sanni. The girl had first met Sanni while teaching at a school run by Jaraware in her native village Salempur, and had quit after he allegedly started harassing her.

Amit, Sonu and Sanni were arrested and sent in 14 days judicial custody.

Jaraware is a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. A BSP spokesperson said the Chief Minister had taken a very serious view of the incident.

The incident had caused outrage in Deoband, where the wedding was taking place, with the opposition parties starting a campaign for Jaraware’s arrest.
