More raids at SAI centres

Front view of Habibganj Railway Station,Bhopal...Image via WikipediaIn it’s third such operation in little over a week, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) conducted raids at the Sports Authority of India’s centre in Bhopal on Sunday. The first raid by NADA officials was conducted at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, on July 9, and the second at SAI, Bangalore last week.

The raids by NADA are an effort to clean up the system after the doping scandal in which eight athletes, including the top women 400 metre runners returned positive tests.

The raids at the Bhopal centre began at 8 am. The team headed by Manpal Singh also included two women doping officers and two technical officers. In all 38 rooms were checked.

“Samples of food supplements and other medicines found in seven rooms were sealed and will be brought for testing to the National Anti-doping Laboratory,” NADA director general Rahul Bhatnagar said. Twenty five urine samples, including that from 10 woshu players, five boxers, five judokas, three women hockey players among others were collected.
