At a meeting of Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union (PRTU), the largest teachers' union in the state, in Adilabad on Sunday, the speakers had decided to close the government schools in the region to express solidarity with the non-cooperation movement to mount pressure on the Union government to take an immediate decision in favour of Telangana.

It may be recalled that various Telangana employees' unions had served a notice on the state government to launch the non-cooperation movement after August 1. In this regard, a unanimous resolution was passed at the PRTU meeting. Representatives from Nizamabad, Adilabad and Khammam districts took part in it.
