Image via WikipediaA North Delta woman has been charged with seconddegree murder in the stabbing death of her common-law spouse.
Beatrice Thomas, 37, appeared in Surrey Provincial Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until her next appearance July 27.
Thomas was living at a duplex in the 11500-block of 80th Avenue with Quannah Jo O'Soup when he was killed July 3.
Delta Police Sgt. Sharlene Brooks said police were called to the home about 12: 30 a.m. and found O'Soup "unconscious and unresponsive." O'Soup, 38, was pronounced dead by ambulance attendants when they arrived a short time later.
Both O'Soup and Thomas were known to police before the stabbing, Brooks said.
Police had responded to a domestic call at the home in March. After that, a peace bond was imposed on O'Soup to only contact Thomas when he was sober. He was allowed to live at the home as long as he abided by conditions, Brooks said. She said toxicology reports would determine if O'Soup had been drinking before he was stabbed.
Thomas' two children, ages 10 and 15, were home at the time of the stabbing, but did not see the attack, Brooks said. They are being cared for by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Thomas has no criminal record, according to the online court database.
